Solar Chargers

Basics

Solar chargers are great way to keep all your electronics up and running on an adventure.  From small panels for phones, cameras & GPS units to larger systems to run laptops or refrigerators, we've elected to use PowerFilm applications.   Tested and developed for the military, they are now available in multiple watt increments for a range of uses.  Folding panels are more expensive per watt than rigid panels, but the unique features are significant.

Key benefits of folding panels

  • Easily moved either between vehicles or even to a trailer or boat (or from backpack to kayak for smaller panels.)

  • Longer life - store them inside out of inclement weather rather than bolted to the vehicle, remove them to save weight and space when you're doing the daily commute.

  • Easy to position for optimal charging - hang, drape or just lie on the ground as needed to avoid shadows and obtain the best angle.

  • 70% lighter than rigid panels - important for lightweight vehicles like the Element.

Pricing

Model Price - Installed Typical Applications
F1512 - 20 Watt $625 Trickle-charger for Battery

Vehicle Systems

If your Element is coming in for conversion, we can install a complete solar charging system designed for your requirements.

The first step is to estimate your needs, and then we can evaluate if you need just a panel, or a full system with charge controller, wiring and power taps or an additional battery.

60 Watt Panel

The largest folding panel we offer, it is capable of running a number of devices full time, such as a laptop or small refrigerator even while keeping the battery topped off or the tunes playing

Charge Controller

This device ensures that the solar panel will not overcharge the battery on a sunny day.  Mounted to the side of the engine bay in a case, the controller is protected from dust and splash.

In the photo, the case cover is removed to show the controller

Power Tap

Fully waterproof connector tap is mounted unobtrusively near the front grill.  Typical connector leads range from 15 to 30 feet, leaving a wide range for optimal panel placement.
